Enshrined in the BCI Philosophy in September 2004
The Preamble
BCI makes it binding for all its members (institutional and individual) to follow the sacrosanct BCI’s Universal Code Of Professional Ethics (UCPE).
The UCPE is explained across three sections, each describing members’ responsibilities, actions and conduct in a specific set of life & professional situations and circumstances and a set of clear guidelines on how to tackle issues and dilemmas expected to occur during the course of fulfilling ones life & professional commitments.
The UCPE is structured as follows:
Section 1: General Ethical Considerations to be adhered to by all members in the conduct of their responsibilities as a responsible, conscious & alert citizen of the world.
Section 2: Specific Considerations on professional thought & conduct
Section 3: Principles related to compliance with the UCPE
Specific set of guidelines, called BCI Conduct Guidelines shall be provided to all members to help them adhere to the UCPE. Indeed, both the Code and the Conduct Guidelines are organic and will change in accordance to the needs and norms of civilization as well as they will seek to adapt to business & professional management paradigms globally.
The UCPE and BCI Conduct Guidelines aim at providing a framework for ethical decision making to members in the conduct of their professional work and commitments. Equally importantly, the BCI Code and the BCI Conduct Guidelines shall also form a basis for judging the merit of a formal complaint relating to breaches and violation of professional ethical standards.
It should be please understood here that since, certain expressions, phrases and words mentioned in the UCPE and BCI Conduct Guidelines are subject to varying interpretations, there may be instances in which a member may interpret a certain ethical principle conflicting with some other ethical principles. In such situations, we request all members to be guided and directed by their “inner voice” and by the spirit of the Fundamental Principles as enshrined in the UCPE and BCI Conduct Guidelines, rather than by the detailed regulations presented therein.
