a.  I hold the CBTS‌® qualification of BCI; how do I become a       CBQM‌®?

You can upgrade to CBQM‌® from CBTS‌® easily if you have been working in the quality function for a minimum of three years. You can apply for the upgrade two years after attaining your CBTS‌® Certification. In fact, a majority of CBTS‌® certified professionals who have been working in the quality function choose to upgrade to CBQM‌® rather than recertify on CBTS‌®, because in their last few years, they have moved up in their careers and developed a substantial interest in pursuing a career in Quality Management. The CBQM‌® qualification suits such professionals best second year onward their CBTS‌® certification. Upgrading to CBQM‌® is easy. When can you Upgrade to CBQM‌® from CBTS‌®

The best time to apply for an upgrade to CBQM‌® is exactly 2 years after attaining your CBTS‌® credential. In fact, as said earlier, most CBTS‌® certificants who desire to get into Quality Management, choose to upgrade to CBQM‌® instead of recertifying for CBTS‌® when their CBTS‌® is two months away from expiry. However, do pay attention to various upgrade offers and schemes frequently emailed to you by BCI. You may actually save a lot on upgrade voucher costs.

How to Upgrade from CBTS‌®

Upgrading from CBTS‌® is a simple 3-step process:

  1. Register for CBQM‌® through the Upgrade Link
    You can enroll/register for your upgrade directly with BCI on one of the BCI portals or take the assistance of the authorized BCI Training provider nearest to you. Once you register and pay the required fee, you will receive the CBQM‌® upgrade Voucher and all other relevant information about your upgrade program through email. You will qualify for the CBQM‌® upgrade after completing the upgrade formalities as mentioned in Step 2 below. Indeed, do remember to enroll early if you want to enjoy the fee benefit!

  2. Complete Upgrade Requirements
    Once you have applied for an upgrade to CBQM‌®, you are required to complete the following BCI-prescribed formalities after logging into your account:

    • Submission of your latest Curriculum Vitae in the format available on the CBQM‌® application section of the BCI portal.
    • Submit the Online Quality Management Career Report documenting key aspects of your learnings and achievements since attaining the CBTS‌® certification as instructed.
    • You have to complete and submit an assignment online.
    • You may be required to request your manager or the reporting officer (Referee) to submit a Confidential Work-Performance Feedback Report for you in the prescribed format. This has to be done online by your referee by logging in directly into the BCI assessment portal.
  3. Get the Upgrade Decision
    If you qualify all prescribed BCI norms on Knowledge and Competence Prerequisites and have completed all required submissions, you become eligible for being considered for the award of the CBQM‌® credential. You can expect your CBQM‌® Credential Pack to reach you within 30-45 days from the date of declaration of the award decision.



b.  I hold the CCIS‌® / CBSS‌® / CFPS‌® / CTSS‌® qualification of BCI;       how do I become a CBQM‌®?

You can be considered for the CBQM‌® credential program if you have spent at least 5 years handling quality assurance/quality control roles after attaining your CCIS‌®/CBSS‌®/CFPS‌®/CTSS‌® qualification. You can then upgrade to CBQM‌® by applying for the upgrade 5 years after attaining your CCIS‌®/CBSS‌®/CFPS‌®/CTSS‌® certification. There will be frequent reminder emails from BCI and from other BCI partners associated with you and you simply have to click the links mentioned in these communications, or log into your BCI account and register for the program. All other policy and process steps remain the same as for the upgrade from CBTS‌®.

I have other quality management qualifications; how can I become a CBQM‌®

Attaining the CBQM‌® qualification as a new applicant involves the following steps:

  1. Become a BCI Primary Member / User
    To become a primary member, simply apply for the CBQM‌® certification program on the BCI website and you will receive an application process email carrying links and details of registration
  2. Register for CBQM‌®
    Complete the registration and payment process as instructed in the registration process email sent by BCI (step 1 above).
  3. Submit Critical Documents & Assignments
    You have to complete an assignment online and may have to request your manager or the reporting officer (Referee) to submit a Confidential Work-Performance Feedback Report for you in the prescribed format. This has to be done online by your referee by logging in directly into the BCI assessment portal.
  4. Certification Decision
